Preschool

Ages 4-5

Our Preschool program is designed for children who will enter kindergarten the following school year. This program builds on the Creative Curriculum, with an additional emphasis on skills that prepare them for Kindergarten.

Skill-based Program

Children at this age continue to develop physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally. Our skill-based preschool program includes reading, language, math, computer, science, art, music, and large motor activities. The program helps children develop all of these skills in a warm, nurturing environment.

Thematic Units

Our experienced and highly qualified teachers plan thematic units in math, literacy, science, art, music, and movement to thoroughly prepare children for a smooth transition to kindergarten with a solid learning foundation. Teachers provide opportunities for children to create, communicate, and collaborate with others, whether in a whole-group setting, small groups, or individual interactions. We encourage the development of social skills through activities that promote friendship, teamwork, sharing, and empathy.

Every Day a Learning Day

Iowa’s Child Early Learning Community offers a safe, convenient program for after-school hours, school holidays, summer, and other school closings. We provide a nurturing, stimulating, and fun environment where children further their learning experiences and explorations in a safe monitored environment. Our centers drop off and pick up children from neighborhood schools at the beginning and end of each school day, including days when there is early dismissal. We transport to and from Madison Elementary, Cattell Elementary, Findley Elementary, and Oak Park Elementary. We provide a nutritious afternoon snack each day while kids are able to socialize with their friends.

A Multitude of Learning Opportunities

We encourage continuing language development through letter and sound recognition, writing activities, reading, stories, singing, rhyming, and finger plays. Children have the opportunity to practice writing their names, activities that strengthen phoneme awareness, words, and writing. They develop math and spatial skills with activities that focus on counting, matching, sorting, building, and number and shape recognition. Children use crayons, paints, markers, and other materials to explore artistic expression. They are encouraged to learn through hands-on discoveries in each classroom learning center.

Exploration and Discovery

Our program encourages exploration and discovery while providing a formal education in a safe and secure environment. Print-rich classrooms enable students to be immersed in literacy, assisting in developing letter and word recognition. Our main goal in this classroom is to impart on your child the skills and knowledge to thrive in Kindergarten and to provide them with the early skills to become lifelong learners.
