2-Year Olds

Age 2

This program is designed to allow two-year-olds to learn through play while encouraging individual interests.

Independence

Teachers support this growing independence by providing opportunities for classroom jobs: helping put things away, assisting in their own food service, washing hands, and choosing materials and activities during center time.

Creativity

Throughout the day children make self-directed but carefully guided choices, participating in small groups, art activities, taking part in circle time, and cooking activities. At this age level children are provided with plenty of free play to allow their creativity to advance. Teachers provide opportunities for children to engage in reading, writing, listening, and speaking using finger plays, puppets, singing, and rhyming.

Communication

Many opportunities are provided to increase a child’s ability to communicate by developing active listening and expressive language skills.

Consistency

Thematic units are used to encourage children to investigate new skills and ideas. As children show an interest in potty training, teachers work with our families to help accomplish this important milestone. A consistent approach and an encouraging environment have proved to be the key to successful potty training in this classroom.
